Every
consultation and treatment plan is personalised and specifically
tailored to the individual and their treatment needs. Therefore,
consultation and treatment times may vary in length according to the
injury and the area to be assessed or treated.
However, on your first visit to a rehabilitation therapist you can expect:
A
full consultation regarding your previous medical and surgical history in
addition to your current health and the injury or symptoms you are
experiencing.
A
full physical examination for which you will be required to remove some of
your outer clothing or bring a pair of shorts to change in to:
- Observation
of posture
- Gait
analysis
- Functional tests
- Range of
motion testing
- Special
tests
- Neurological
assessment
- Assessment
of related joints
- Palpation
- Problem list
compiled with goals
Depending on the outcome of the initial assessment it may be
necessary to consult with your G.P. or consultant or refer you on to another
health care professional. However, this will be discussed with you during
consultation and we will not disclose your details to a third party without
your consent. Your confidentiality is of great importance and will always be
maintained.
Sports Injury Rehabilitation:
Depending on the diagnosis a specifically tailored treatment
plan and/or rehabilitation programme will be designed based upon the problem
list compiled during assessment. Techniques vary from:
Sports
massage
Mobilisations
Core
stability exercises
Home
exercise and specific stretches
Tailored
one to one rehabilitation sessions
Lifestyle
advice
Postural
advice
These techniques will be combined with re-assessment of the
initial complaint and regular progress reviews. Your treatment will be adjusted
as necessary and you will always be given explanations and the reasoning behind
your treatment plan which will also be agreed before commencing.
